Japanese Garden Assistant Curator position open in Albuquerque

The Rio Grande Botanic Garden in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is seeking a full-time City of Albuquerque Assistant Curator for a three and a half acre Japanese-style Garden which will incorporate native Southwestern and arid-adapted plants. Ground will be broken on the Japanese garden this winter. Primary responsibility for this individual will be supervising the Japanese garden and its small crew. The individual in this position must have knowledge of the principles and techniques of botanic garden management with regard to Japanese gardens; principles and practices of Japanese garden supervision, evaluation and training; theories and practices of Japanese garden horticulture, including pruning techniques; and methods and techniques of Japanese garden design and planning. Responsibilities will be diverse, and include hands-on gardening as well as administration. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required. Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor's degree in botany, horticulture or related field, plus four years of administrative and supervisory experience in a botanical garden or similar facility. Starting salary is $1,255.20 biweekly.
