Kyoto Gardens: A Virtual Stroll through Zen Landscapes

  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005OA4V/japanesegardenda

Last Updated: 4/23/2002

Ian Shortreed and Jim Fitzsimmons and the folks at Mercury Software have released a second edition of this popular CD-ROM on the gardens of Japan. This includes Quicktime VR 'walk-throughs' of a number of the prominent Kyoto Gardens as well as essays by notable garden scholars. It is the first interactive CD-ROM that utilizes Apple Computer's Quicktime VR technology to "walk-through" 24 of Kyoto's most renown gardens. A seamless panorama of wood, sand, and stone, lets you experience Japanese garden design and the world of Zen firsthand. Maps, slides, screensavers, essays, history and aesthetics are brought together into an interactive journey. An online demonstration is available at http://www.mercury-soft.com/GARDEN.eng.html. It includes QTVR sample walkthroughs for Ryogenin and Kiyomizu temples. (Requires a recent Netscape or Internet Explorer browser and possibly the Quicktime VR Components plug-in).

This updated, second edition has been re-written from scratch for the latest operating systems, including Windows ME/2000/XP and Quicktime 5, dramatically improving the speed and user interface.
