3rd Symposium on Japanese Gardens Cancelled

The Montreal Botanical Garden, host for the year 2000 symposium of Japanese Gardens, informed us that it has decided to cancel its participation in the symposium scheduled for September 7-9 of this year. The Montreal Botanical Garden, one of the premier gardens in North America, found that early registrations were insufficient to justify its continued economic support for the symposium. The Montreal Botanical Garden will contact registrants and refund their registration fees. The International Association of Japanese Gardens sincerely apologizes for inconvenience caused by cancellation of the symposium due to circumstances beyond its control. The International Association of Japanese Gardens is exploring how it might host several technical training programs or joint programs with individual Japanese gardens later this year and in 2001 and will provide information on future programs. It is expected that a symposium will be held in Kyoto, Japan in the year 2002.
