DescriptionConsidered a 'living treasure' by the Japanese government at the time of his death in the 1990's, Saito designed almost 400 gardens in Japan and overseas. With Wada Sadaji he also wrote several books including: Magic of Trees and Stones: Secrets of Japanese Gardening in 1964, Designing Japanese Gardens in 1961, Quick and Easy Japanese Gardens, Japanese Gardening Hints in 1969 and Zukai Sakuteiki in 1966.

One of his last designs in North America was the Myo-wa-en garden for Bonnie Teasdel. He is also remembered for a karesansui garden he designed for the United Nations building in New York City.
